McMaster CCE: Heather Pollex Showcase

Higher education institutions such as McMaster CCE are taking advantage of changes to programs and certificate requirements in order to better prepare their students. Instead of focusing on solely theory, McMaster CCE has introduced experiential learning to help students gain practical experience. Due to the constraints of continuing education students, McMaster CCE uses experiential learning engagements embedded into the classroom in order to provide students that opportunity.

McMaster University has a long history of innovation. Over 30 years ago, its medical school pioneered the use of problem-based learning, which is now used in medical training worldwide. In 2017, McMaster’s Continuing Education department became the first department of its kind in Canada to partner with Riipen.
Concordia University Enhances Experiential Learning with Riipen

Concordia University, based in Montreal, has launched a new series of initiatives in partnership with Riipen. With 47,000 students, of which 20% are international students, Concordia has made it a priority to expand experiential learning opportunities.
Digital Badges for Career-Ready Skills

In Fall 2019, Riipen partnered with two continuing education institutions on a pilot initiative to offer digital badges to students. In collaboration with the McMaster Centre for Continuing Education and York University’s School of Continuing Studies, we developed badges to issue to students based on skills they developed and demonstrated through experiential learning projects.
Mock Disaster Strikes Fanshawe College

Once a year for the past decade, Fanshawe College in London, Ontario has been host to a fake disaster that takes over the entire campus. Fanshawe believes this mock disaster simulation is important as it allows students to apply the skills learned in the classroom and explore how they would actually handle themselves in a “real-life” crisis.
