New partnership between George Brown and Riipen offers workplace scenario training for students
Toronto, Ontario, September 2018
George Brown is upping its experiential learning game, thanks to a new partnership with Riipen — North America’s leading platform for project-based experiential learning. In a new college-wide initiative, George Brown students will now have a chance to enhance their studies with current, real workplace scenarios.
“I’m really excited that we’re able to offer this new high-quality learning opportunity to our faculty and students,” said Dario Guescini, Director of Work-Integrated Learning. “Riipen will give students hands-on experience and career-ready skills as they transition into the workforce — which is exactly what employers are looking for.”
This is a three-year partnership with funding support from Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development , as part of the province’s efforts to deliver experiential learning opportunities to every student in Ontario.
Riipen works by bringing together faculty with industry to share relevant assignments and projects with one another. Faculty and industry are able to connect online — where curriculum-based school projects are matched with current workplace challenges that students can then solve. Students get the benefit of turning theory into real, sector-specific projects that they can proudly showcase on their resume. Unlike academic case-studies that are often years out of date, Riipen gives students contemporary, real-time challenges in a variety of disciplines.
“This partnership is a demonstration of our commitment to experiential learning. It gives us the tools and resources that will help students transition to the workplace, and provides valuable, relevant experience that they need to be successful," said Guescini.
Our Riipen pilot launches this fall. Faculty will first train on the platform, and then introduce the software in the classroom during the winter semester.
