KAT Innovation is a startup developing a medical device that stimulates bone formation and speeds healing in the hips of patients suffering from hip fractures due to osteoporosis, which may or may not be associated with severe chronic renal failure.
As a newer startup, KAT Innovation values top talent but doesn’t currently have the resources needed to support work on mission-critical projects. Fortunately, Level UP provided the company with much-needed talent to work on these projects and provided an easy process that pays students directly which elevated KAT Innovation’s business quickly.
Through the Level UP remote internship program, KAT Innovation Founder and CEO, Marcel Maroist, partnered withNoor Choudhry, to help on graphic design and development of his business’s beta website. Noor flexed the graphic design and web development skills she was learning while studying at the University of Alberta and gained valuable hands-on experience by partnering with KAT Innovation. Her project focused on improving the beta website’s design elements and created web layouts for future web pages.
“My experience with my employer was great. They gave me all the resources I needed to be successful,” Noor shared.
Noor’s work on this project was invaluable to KAT Innovation. She was included, along with all Level UP learners that worked on KAT Innovation projects, in a company-wide communication system where they would set up virtual meetings to check-in, which made the projects seamless.
“I don’t think we’d be at the same level in our business if we didn’t have the help from the Level UP students,” Marcel said.
As the project progressed, it was clear that Noor kept increasing her knowledge and stretching her learning to improve her graphic design and web development skills. KAT Innovation’s current website was created by Level UP learners like Noor, and this project helped her gain confidence in her graphic design skills which has prepared her for future opportunities.
“This experience added value to my education because it gave me the ability to have hands-on experience. I feel better prepared for employment after graduation,” she said.
As a newer startup, there is a lot of potential at KAT Innovation for future growth.
“I could create a project right away because I am still a small startup and need help. I could also get some great talent that could work for us in the future as we grow,” Marcel said. “Level UP is a great program that I highly recommend to my business peers who own companies like mine.”
Noor is grateful to have worked on KAT Innovation’s website project. The experience exposed her to a new industry and put her graphic design and web development skills to practice on a relevant project with real outcomes, which is invaluable.
“I would recommend this way of learning to students, and I’ve already recommended the Level UP program to fellow peers.”
